The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, it was named in honor of the mariner Christopher Columbus. There are over 1.9 million members in nearly 15,000 councils, with 302 councils on college campuses.
The principals of the order that guides its action are: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. Its moto is “In service to one, in service to All”. Today, the Knights remain in strong support of the Catholic Church and their local communities.
They are frequently referred to as a “Strong right arm of the Church.” In 2015, the Knights set a new all-time record for charitable donations and service hours with $175,079,192.00 in donations and 73.5 million hours of service. The Order also has a strong insurance program with, at this point, over 2 million contracts, totaling more than 100 billion US dollars of life insurance in force.
St. Patrick’s Council 6902, a subordinate council of Supreme in New Haven, Ct, was chartered on March 11, 1977. We are headquartered in Pelham, NH calling St. Patrick’s Parish our home. For the past 40 years we have continued the traditions and principles of our order, promoting the beliefs of our Catholic Faith and assisting our parish in service projects, religious activities and with financial aid.
In addition, the Knights supply to our community social functions for enjoyment and get together, charitable donations to health organizations, those in need and public service by sponsoring blood drives, etc. Currently, we have 71 members in our council but are always looking to add to our ranks enabling us to expand our good works.
The Knight's of St. Patrick Council 6902 are so pleased that our Grand Knight James Dolan was recognized and awarded the State of New Hampshire Grand Knight of The Year for his life long service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jim, All of us are so honored to serve under your leadership.
